Holiday Fun

During the summer season guests often mention that visiting Mackinac Island at Christmas time is on their bucket list. It really is a magical time of year!
Main Street is festive with decorations, lights, and music playing. When the horses clip-clop past, it truly makes you feel like you are in a Christmas movie.
With strings of lights on the rails and a tree in the bow, The Huron looks extra cheery crossing from St. Ignace. This time of year takes a little longer--about 40 minutes one way. The ferry was packed with guests on the first weekend of December for the Christmas tree lighting!
Poppins, Poppins[Home], and Caddywampus all opened their doors on Friday and Saturday to bundled up guests as they strolled along Main Street. A hot drink from the Lucky Bean coffee shop was a common accessory.
The winter days are quickly growing shorter and it was dark at 5:30pm when everyone gathered on Main Street around the tree Friday night. After singing several Christmas carols, the tree lights were switched ON and the holiday season officially began on the island!
Island residents worked hard memorizing lines, designing sets and costumes for the play, "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas". At the final cast bow, there was a long round of applause from the audience for a wonderful show at the historic Mission Point Theatre!
Between work and fun we took some long walks along our favorite island trails.
The December clouds were rolling through the straits and every now and again the sun rays would peek through putting on a beautiful show. It was a great weekend!
We invite you to shop at our online store this Christmas season. We are happy to ship directly to those on your gift list with the items beautifully packaged and can include a personal note, if you choose. Remember, the last day to order in time for Christmas is December 14th!
We will re-open the shops on December 30th and 31st, from 11am-4pm. Come ring in the New Year on Mackinac Island. We hope to see you there!
