News — Mackinac Island

Riding around the island there are many signs of the fast approaching autumn season. Along M-185 the late summer wildflowers, Fireweed and Queen Anne’s Lace are beginning to fade. The days have that crisp fall feel in the air and are growing shorter, bringing vibrant sunrises and sunsets that are incredible to witness. The 74th annual Lilac Festival brought many visitors to view 250 varieties of lilacs and participate in many activities. The lilacs bloomed right on cue and their sweet scent hung in the air. On the first Saturday of the festival, we cheered on the participants of the 10k running race as they passed our front door on Main Street. Many stopped by to shop after the race and it was fun to congratulate them and hear about their experience. The general consensus was that it was a fun course, but Mission Hill was a killer! The 2022 season has begun! It has been a busy spring on Mackinac Island. We unpacked many, many boxes of beautiful products and arranged things 'just so' for you to see on your visit. The shops were dusted, swept, and painted to prepare for opening day, which was Saturday, April 30th.  It wasn’t all work! Lunch breaks were extra long as we walked along the shore to watch the progress of the ice melting and visited our favorite flower beds to see the spring flowers pushing through the soil. I headed to Mackinac to celebrate the new year with my husband Myk. Actually, we were there to work but we still managed to have some fun. There were quite a few people on the Island so we decided to open for a few days. I love the Island in the winter and luckily for us the snow arrived just in time...... it looked magical.
